The Midnight Taiko Kai - taiko with spirit

We are a group of taiko drummers, spreading our love of the art of Japanese drumming in the city of Calgary, Alberta. We are committed to challenging ourselves and improving individually while working together, as a team, respecting the abilities and efforts of each member. Our goal is to ignite the passion of those around us with our love of taiko!

The group is so named because we are so very passionate about good taiko and would gladly stay up all night playing!

April 2009 - Workshop/Information Exchange with Kita no Taiko (Edmonton, AB)

A few of our members went up to Edmonton for the weekend and spent many fun filled hours drumming with Kita no Taiko, learning what we can (thanks for letting us pick your brains KnT!) and exchanging information on the joy of taiko.

July 2008 - Taiko Exchange/Jamming with BIO Taiko (Toronto, ON), and Icho Daiko (Cleveland, OH)

One of our members spent the Canada's Day/Independence Day weekend visiting and jamming with these groups to share ideas, drills, songs, and as a way to connect to other taiko groups in North America.

June 2008 - Workshop with Kenny Endo in Honolulu, Hawaii

Several of our members spent a week in sunny Hawaii to learn some new beats and techniques from the world-famous Taiko player Kenny Endo!

March 2008 - Workshop with Uminari Taiko and Kenny Endo in Victoria, BC

Some of our members spent Easter weekend in Victoria, BC to jam with Uminari Taiko and Honolulu's Kenny Endo!
